We wait a long time for the end of September when all the new shows start to air.  And we got a good month in before this writer’s strike.  It will surely disrupt the airways for some time.  I remember waaaayyy back (back far enough that I remember thinking cheesecake was really, really healthy for a person & thus consumed dangerously large amounts) when there was a strike and Letterman ended up filling up his hour hucking toast into the audience.  It was cute for the first loaf of bread.  Then, not so much.  Apparently, Hollywood will be okay since they’ve been stock-piling scripts in anticipation of such an event.  I must say that I was THRILLED to see that Ellen didn’t show up for work yesterday in support of her writers.  You go, girl.

Might I suggest a few things to do as you are NOT wrestling for the remote  (The writer’s union in the U.S. says it may be a long one.):

Start a countdown on your calendar for the Sex and The City Movie.

Start reading agent blogs.  My faves are:  www.nelsonagency.com, www.knightagency.net, www.bookends-llc.com, and of course, the ever fabulous (but now dark) blog of Miss. Snark.

Take a good, hard look at your current make-up supply.  Decide that you need all new stuff & each evening when the reruns are on, go buy said new products.  (I’m sure you can bill them to the television companies or something.)

Write the middle section of the novel you started.  What are you doing taking time for TV anyhow!?

READ!  I’ve been reading some teen fiction books lately - maybe I’m just really stunted, but some fabulously juicy teen tomes out there just waiting for you to pick up.

Join a virtual world.  My personal favorites are Club Penguin, Webkins & Gaia Online.  NOTHING is sideways in these worlds.  There are no washing machines that break, no microwaves that start to billow black smoke… You play games, get bucks, and buy bling.  Honestly.  If I weren’t expected to pay for an ACTUAL house, I’d be spending my days in a VIRTUAL one.
