I’m finally home. Coming home is the best thing about vacation. We drove a long way and we did some wonderful stuff. And here are the best of the best:
Juiciest Song: Thanks to Sirius, we had good tuneage for the whole 4000 kilometers we traveled. These kept us grooving and I’ll be downloading them: Shut up & Drive by Rhianna Who Knew by Pink, Stronger by Kanye West, FOUR of Justin Timberlake’s hot songs, everything they played by Timbaland. And my personal fave: Hey There Delilah by The Plain White T’s.![]()
Juiciest Persona: The Tofino artisan - a glass maker - he kept talking like Timothy Treadwell from The Grizzly Man documentary (It’s fabulous. Watch it!) - we were talking about the winding roads to Tofino and he kept saying “Hello bear”. Over & Over. In the same voice as Timothy. Very creepy. Too bad for him I’ve seen the film a ton of times (because I teach it with my senior students) and his attempt to appear interesting ended up just being like a movie rerun. But he did make lovely glass & I bought a necklace for my sis.
Juiciest Meal: Summerhill Winery… the hummus was to die for. (and if you missed the post with the freaky couple there, go back and look here.)
Juciest Movie: Traveling that far requires a DVD player for the offspring. This summer there was one DVD that was played too much. But it sticks because the theme song will NOW NEVER be eradicated from my brain.
“Pinky & the Brain, Pinky & the Brain/One is a genius, the other is insane” Season 4 of Pinky & the Brain. Max watched it in the car 300 times.
Juciest Book: Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen wins hands down. But I also enjoyed Vanish (a Tess Gerritsen I hadn’t read before).
Juiciest Store: Oh. This category is tied. Goats on the Roof at Coombs (on the way to Tofino)… goats really live on the roof & their selection is eclectic and cool AND the MAC section of the Bay in Kelowna. My ULTIMATE FAVORITE limited edition Raquel Welch lipstick is no longer available. I’m writing to MAC headquarters. I’ll let you know how THAT goes. Anyhow, they hooked me up with a semi decent replacement as far as color goes. But I’ll still be writing.
Juciest M-Rated Moment: Seeing the surfers strip from their wetsuits in the parking lot of Cox Bay in Tofino. One of them called another Mr. Snuffleuphagus. I, of course, being the uber-discreet person I am known to be, shut my eyes…
(or at least that’s what it looked like with my sunglasses on…)
Juciest Beach Discovery: A “clan” of purple and orange starfish hanging out in a small tide-pool. They were much nicer to look at than the ginormous SLUG we briefly had as a pet from Grandma’s garden. Oh. And if you’re wondering about the crazy frogs we housed before vacation, I’ll have you know that they were set free prior to holiday travel. Max thought they’d be happier in a pond. But they might miss their lego cars. We didn’t bring the slug home. I like frogs. I don’t do slugs.![]()
Juciest Family Moment: My sister Kris, brother in law Mike, nephews Jack & Ethan, my Mama, Eran, Max and I screaming at the top of our lungs as Sam crossed the finish line at the Kelowna triathlon (KOS) for a 4th place medal after doing the most grueling and best race he’s ever done.
Absolute triumph for him. Naturally I had my sunglasses on there as to avoid him seeing the waterworks.
All in all a most fabulous trip. What was YOUR juciest summer moment?
My juiciest summer moment is… sitting down Friday morning and clicking onto your blog. Only to see that you drove with family 12 hrs.thru 2 provinces in one day…and then first thing in the am (7:51 is the middle of the nite for us still)you can write such an awesome page-full. YOU are incredible!!
August 24th, 2007 at 9:47 amAh Julie Bird. You’re so sweet… but the truth is that driving so long yesterday gave me a horrific kink in my neck & I was up early complaining anyhow… No matter. I’ve set some time aside for a nap!
