Unique. Eccentric. Flamboyant. Bizarre. Freaky. “Okay. Let’s move to the other side of the street, kids”…
Let me tell you, the street performers festival this past weekend was awesome. We saw an Elvis “robot” (a guy in a bunch of silver hairspray and glittery stuff on top of a podium doing very slight robotic movements to music. Max was some pissed when he stopped the routine and “ruined everything” to break character and pick up a baby), “Wheels in Motion” - an amazing acrobat woman in a giant wheel (the boys were enthralled with her tricks but honestly I just couldn’t stop staring at her muscles. I don’t understand how a real live human being could have abs like that), and finally a juggler [”Mario: Queen of the Circus”] who wore black leather and spandex and for thirty minutes played, sang, and talked about Freddy Mercury and Queen. He was most entertaining - my fave of the day. And those were just the performers! The crowd was just as interesting to watch. It made me think about the world of fiction. I can honestly say that real life people are stranger than any mind could possibly create…
And in between the snow-cones, cotton candy, pop, fries, & subsequent stomach aches, I managed to maneuver the kids into a very cool little bookstore called The Rabbit Hole and buy my very own copy of “On The Road” by Jack Kerouac. That will be the next on my reading list. What’s on yours?
