squeezing your webs
- Did you know that (allegedly) if you squeeze the “web” between your finger and thumb, it’s been known to get labour started? [A caveat. This, naturally, is only known to be effective for pregnant people. If you’re not, and you’re just sitting at your desk, and you ask your co-workers to take care of the phone b/c you’re too busy squeezing your webs, you might find yourself in a nice, soft padded room somewhere.] My sis, who is very good at being pregnant (Yes… there are those good at it and those bad at at. I was pregnant like I cook. Bad news) said yesterday, “I’m so over this.” Anyone who has been there knows that the last couple weeks of heartburn (paired with all of the other physiological nightmares) is enough to drive a normally sane person over the edge. So she called last night and we laughed our heads off because she started “squeezing her webs”. Naturally, little Max got right on the “web/spiderman” association and thinks it’s an excellent idea. He’ll be sooo disappointed when his cousin (who is of the female persuasion) comes out and there is no resemblance to Peter Parker.
sad about heath
I’m sad about Heath Ledger. I don’t do many movies (my ADHD personality prevents me from the enjoyment of sitting still for any length of time)… but Brokeback Mountain was amazing. But if Hollywood didn’t have the dirt to tear him down after the news (as they would have with poor Britney), he was probably a pretty stand up guy. It seems he just did what he did - did it well - lived his life… a person to be admired.
feng shui
- I spent a small fortune at Bubbles carwash yesterday. My Feng Shui person, Kelly Talbot, will be extremely pleased that I’m taking such good care of the helpful people & travel area of my life…
10 days ’till home
- It’s been a huge stretch for me to be without a permanent home for the past few weeks (as we have just moved & we’re waiting to take possession of our house)… Living out of a suitcase is, for me, not exhilarating. But it has made me realize just how little we need. And it also has made me recognize the RIDICULOUSNESS of the variety of paint chips at Home Depot. Since I have to repaint most of the interior to match my love of the neutral, just examining the variations of white and the selection of stone colors has made me want to repeatedly bash my head against the paint display. I’ve been in there so much I’m sure their loss prevention staff think I’m going to pull some kind of paint chip heist. They’re watching me closely… But if you recall my Ralph Lauren paint fiasco, you’ll sympathize with my obsessiveness to get it right the first time.
Hi there,
I recently picked up a signed copy of your book from my laundry room (the give-away/I’ve-moved pile) and am in the process of reading it, and find it really interesting. Being from a big city like Toronto I guess I find myself a lot like Emily since I moved to Kelowna just a year ago. I know I have changed and am not quite the same crazy fun person I used to be, so knowing that other people feel the same and look at the world similarly makes me feel more comfortable about who I really am, and that I’m not really depressed or crazy….and that I am different than the people and the area around me now. I like to observe people too and the little things that make the world tick, and then read…
Just wanted to say thanks and I look forward to reading more of your stuff!

p.s. pinching the ‘web’ is also great for migraines…I thought it was a myth, but watching my boyfriend deal with them and trying everything else….it works!
p.p.s. I agree about Heath Ledger too! He should just get to be himself…everyone has their skeletons, his just weren’t as bad as Britney’s in the eyes of today’s society right?
January 30th, 2008 at 3:31 pmWell Sharley…
