So I’m not the best movie-goer. I have an extraordinarily hard time sitting still for that long. It doesn’t make sense to me how I can sit in front of my laptop for hours and not realize where the time is, and yet during a movie I’m impatient. (oh. & i’m one of those awful, evil souls who talks all through movies…) But I generally fall for the Marvel & DC stuff. IRON MAN did not disappoint. In fact, I’d venture to say that it may be my fave super-hero movie of all time.
Have I been under a rock or did anyone notice how terribly sexy Robert Downey Jr. has become since his real-life brush with the dark side? His appeal surpasses Johnny Depp & Al Pacino. I’m not even kidding. Never-mind that the plot is really, really kick-ass and Gweneth Paltrow rocks, RDjr -honestly- the Tony Stark character (the name even sounds hot) is worth sitting still for. Worth the classic bloated stomach pained feeling after all the greasy popcorn. Worth the sticky stuff (I won’t speculate) that was under my seat and stuck to my shoes. Even worth the outrageous price of the ticket. And though I’m a super fan of super-heroes like Spider-Man & Batman, & the whole archetypal thing rocks my world (cuz i’m a weird english teacher soul), I’d have to say that Iron Man is the new classic…
p.s. Post movie experience, Max & I had to spend 3 hours fabricating an iron man costume. My tools? The “silver f/x” sticky mac-tac stuff I bought for the lining of my drawers - an old batman mask (bye-bye Bruce Wayne… you’re sooo yesterday) - and a knight chest plate… I just know he’ll need to wear it to the grocery store today… oy. Maybe I’ll get to be Pepper Potts, Tony Stark’s super organized assistant… What kind of mac-tac will make me look like Gweneth Paltrow, I wonder????![]()
In writing news, don’t forget to check out the new YA novel Run Like Jagar by Karen Bass. If you haven’t been to Susan Juby’s site lately, you’re missing something good. And Folio has a new blog!
Every writer knows the limbo-waiting-agony… It’s an unfortunate truth of the biz. For me, the past few weeks have been those excruciating “waiting” kind. There’s a lot going on with projects floating around waiting to land… please cross your fingers, toes, (and legs?) that this week the waiting will end and some martini drinking will replace it….
Fingers and toes crossed as requested, although you’re too talented to need it.
