← (one of the best movies ever made…)
I’m on holidays. Every year we come back to Kelowna, B.C. (a few hours from Vancouver in the Okanagan Valley) to play on the beach and visit with family. It’s funny, though, always coming back to where you grew up. Maybe it’s just me (because I was a bit of a wild child)but whenever we roll into town, the memories hit me. I was an ’80’s teen… so here are a few of the things that run through my mind when I’m here…
Although I’ll always be amazed and grateful that I didn’t blow up as a result of the copious amounts of hairspray that was required (the bigger the hair, the better…), I have to say that minus the crazy freaky hair, the 80’s totally rocked.
”The Cure” tunes…
depeche mode…
more tuneage…
madonna… (my teen idol)
we loved the sid & nancy story…
i loved U2 (and still do) and Joshua tree so much I went there & hung out in the desert for a while… FYI, Bono wasn’t hanging out there while I was… (but I’m sure I walked in his footprints) → ![]()
i still watch ferris when it’s on T.V.
there’s nothing really to say about the 80’s fashion… it was what it was. ![]()

You know, looking at all the lace & plastic & leggings… if we WOULD HAVE caught on fire (because of the flammable hair gunk), we all would have gone up in one gigantic fireball. Imagine. An 80’s fireball. I’m sooo glad that didn’t happen.
What was your 80’s thing?
Juicy writer site for today… www.verlakay.com This is for writers and illustrators of children’s books - including young adult stuff. A great writing community & lots of info there.
Agree. 80’s totally rocked. Soooo many one hit wonders (did the artists of ‘Tainted Love’ EVER release another song???). Hair bands…..still listen to Motely Crue and Poison from time to time! Mall bangs (back to your hairspray comments). I had an awesome pair of hot pink Converse high top canvas running shoes that I wore religiously every Friday with skinny leg stretch jeans and a purple Beaver Canoe sweatshirt. Ferris IS fab and I too will watch it every time its on the tube. I remember our huge honkin’ MAC computer that sounded like a cessna starting up that would basically run Pong and not much more. We were so cutting edge. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
August 15th, 2007 at 1:36 pmHot pink Converse?! You and I would SOOO have been friends in the ’80’s….
August 15th, 2007 at 4:51 pmOhh to be in the 80’s again! This is what’s runnin’ through my mind….Roller Disco’s and The Locomotion (come on baby do the), lets not forget Cyndi Lauper and I too loved Madonna. And Def Leppard (pour some sugar on me) is my ring tone. I also liked the Proclaimers. Fav movies would be Dirty Dancing, Back to the future, Beetlejuice, The Big Chill and was St. Elmos Fire 80’s? Games in our house were…Mastermind, the Rubics Cube, Mouse Trap and Sorry. Did you hang at an arcade and play Space Invaders, Centipede or PacMan? And in my closet…good to see that “leg warmers” are back, NOT! And jeans that you just can’t get tight enough Phew, that was fun, but I best pull myself back to 2007 and get to bed.
August 15th, 2007 at 10:27 pmOh Julie Bird! PacMan is still at the top of my list. Yah. No doubt. The 80’s were cool…
